Media is a compilation of resources n which you can receive and send a message, and social justice is the fair and just treatment of an individual or a group of people in the society. We can bring media and social justice together by using mediums such as websites, videos, pictures or documentaries to address the different social justice issues like racism, police brutality, or gender wage gap and give people around the world a better understanding  of the injustices that are being committed against the community.

The intersection of media and social justice  is important because thats how we can globalize issues that happen in ur community and to send a message of equality and justice.

Gun violence is detrimental to society due to the sadness and fearfulness that it comes with it. Innocent people is getting killed because now days everybody has a gun. Media can spread out violence and also it can blind us and keep us away from what happens in society. Violence can be triggered by a lot of circumstances related to childhood or anger. People with parental problems or conflicts in the house usually relieve themselves with other in the street and violence can be one way of relief .

My group's presentation I feel like it was very complete all around since we explained what gentrification was and we gave people a better understanding of the issue. I think we did very well in expressing ourselves and in engaging our peers in our pitch. I think I would like to improve the way I communicate in front of public.I get nervous when I' in front of people and I have to talk to them. The way I express myself, the way I talk can be aspects that I can improve. Also the application of persuasive phrases and words can help me connect with the public and send a message.

I think our documentary should be based on the question " Are violent humans born or made?"  and expand  on some parts of the video where they speak on the circumstances surrounding a violent behavior. Also we should talk to young people and ask them this question and do research on criminals to see how they started to commit crimes and what factor in their childhood influenced this behavior.

My experiences on interviews were improving with time meaning that I  wasn't really putting my best effort at first because I was kind of nervous but then I started losing all the shyness and it really worked out. Regarding the production, I think it was a pretty decent start for someone who haven't edit a video in his whole life. I hope I keep learning about production so I can have more opportunities in life.

My prior knowledge on media being an influence of violence was that humans and mostly little kids will behave how they see others behave and if they are looking at something violent, they will apply that to their behavior because they don't know any better than that. The research that I've done corroborated  this because it shows that children are becoming les sensitive and more violent. Also that once a kid is introduced to a gun , can being video games, movies or tv shows, they'll rather play with guns than with other toys. So the information didn't really surprise me, it just gave me a better understanding of the violence being influenced by media.

Today's group work was very exciting  because it was surrounded  by a lot of ideas and each of us had a job to do in the chart paper . Pedro was drawing everything in the poster while the other were brainstorming about this social issue. I feel like everybody contributed to the poster and helped each other if needed it.

The most important and interesting thing about today's editing is that we got to express ourselves in the way we created the effects of the video, it was fun to get to play around with the tools in Premiere and I also looked for videos in Youtube to improve my skills. I think there was not such a thing as a challenge today, I just see as a way of learning more things.

Our target audience is youth like ourselves because we want to make awareness of how to decode what we see in media and give them the knowledge about the circumstances  that could influence a violent behavior. We should target young people because the our future depends on youth. We could also target adults and parents so they can realize the big impact that media can have in a child's behavior.

My role in the editing team was to look for instrumentals or songs that we could  use as a background for our documentary. Also I took screenshots of  articles that might support our project and our main question.

This is a screenshot of the instrumental I was looking for that can support the tone of the documentary

After today's interview, the most memorable part that stood out was when Rafael Mendez said that media is the scapegoat for a very violent country. Meaning that there's a lot of factors that make a person violent but it's easier to blame it on the media. He says that United State is the country that produces most weapons in the world, also poverty has influenced violent behavior throughout the years.

Regarding to the information that Dr. Mendez shared with us, it was pretty useful for us and I think it can fit in our documentary. I think my opinion did not change with the information the shared with us, but I find interesting his opinion about media being sort of a scapegoat for the violent culture that we live in. He also talked about poverty being one reason of why a person has a violent behavior, he talked about United States being the country that produces the most weapons and our cities being flooded with guns and being easier to get a gun.

There were a lot of challenges about this process of creating our group project I think that the first one was to meet new people that I've never seen in my life and work with them the way we did, also using programs for the first time like Wix or Adobe Premiere Pro to edit my website and our documentary respectively. Also, another challenge that I faced was public speaking, due to my nervousness and fear of speaking in English in-front of other people
